For NSFAS students

How it works at K1

We're accredited, so the process is simple. Here's what to do.

Make sure you qualify

You're an NSFAS-funded TUT student and your permanent home is more than 40 km from campus. (Closer than that, NSFAS gives a transport allowance instead.)

Apply to K1

Send us an enquiry below or on WhatsApp. We'll confirm availability and the room that fits you.

Sign your lease

You sign your lease directly with K1. As a TUT-accredited residence, we submit it to TUT at the start of the year — no hidden fees, no top-ups.

Move in & settle

Your accommodation is paid to K1 through TUT's service provider. You move in next to campus and get on with your studies.

Yes. K1 Rentals is A-grade accredited by TUT. NSFAS-funded students can stay here, and your accommodation is paid to K1 through TUT's service provider.

We're right next door, at 15 Diploma Street in Sonheuwel. It's a short walk to campus, so you don't need transport to get to class.

Yes. We have on-site back-up power, so your lights and WiFi keep running when the area loses power — you won't lose study time.

The kitchens and bathrooms are communal areas, and our staff clean and maintain them for you. You're responsible for keeping your own room neat and tidy.

No. Our rooms are priced within the NSFAS cap and NSFAS rules don't allow top-up payments. You pay nothing above your allowance.

NSFAS-funded students whose permanent home is more than 40 km from campus generally qualify for the accommodation allowance. If you live closer, NSFAS gives a transport allowance instead. Not sure? Ask us and we'll help.

Yes. We have 24-hour security on site and follow all TUT residence rules. K1 is also A-grade accredited by TUT, which means it's inspected against safety and quality standards.

Yes — every room is fully furnished. You get a bed with a mattress protector, a study desk, lamp and chair, built-in cupboards and curtains. There are also on-site laundry facilities. Just bring your bedding and personal things.
